5) Problems
The Dosehra Village is located in an area vulnerable to natural disasters including particularly floods, as there are the River Kabal and the Jindi Canal nearby and in addition a tributary canal flows beside the village within a two to three kilometers range. In 2010, a large population of this village was badly suffered from the flood and many precious lives were lost. Also crops, houses & drinking water sources like wells and hand pumps were damaged by the flood. Even so, fifty percent of the population, the poorest in the village, lives without clean water.
6) Outputs
- Gathering of public meetings for launching and introduction of project as well as formation of 4 committees to implement the project.
- Identification of the location of 10 hand pumps on prescribe form
- Arrangement of public awareness programmes (2 times)
- Linkage development with two different local departments relating to the water project
- Examination of the market price and procurement of hand pump materials by the purchase committee
- Management of inventory & monitoring of the project materials
- Start of the project work & installation of hand pumps
- Water quality test for 10 target hand pumps by the laboratory
- Submission of the final project report with original receipts attached
7) Potential Impacts
1. 52 households have gained the access to safe and clean drinking water.
2. Ten units of hand pump were safely constructed using locally available technology.
3. Time to collect water was shortened owing to installation of hand pumps near their houses.
4. 100 persons (50 males and females each) have become aware of hygiene practices through related education.
5. Ten males were trained to operate and maintain the hand pumps.
6. For repair and maintenance of the hand pumps, PKR 25,000 were funded.
