On March 22, 2024, Prof. Taikan Oki, Vice President of the Japan Water Forum (JWF) was announced as the laureate of the 2024 Stockholm Water Prize (also known as the “Nobel Prize for Water”) .

Prof. Oki has been the Vice President of the JWF since 2023 and became a member of the Advisory Council in 2019.
Prof. Oki is a member of the organizing committee of the new report, Sociocultural Dimensions in Water Resources Management: Policies, Practices, and Challenges, which the JWF and the Asian Development Bank Institute collaborate on.

In 2017, the JWF organized at the public symposium, Water Conference for Future 2017 focusing on the latest ESG (environment, society and governance) investing trends, and Prof. Oki facilitated discussions.

Supervised by Prof. Oki, the JWF and the Ministry of the Environment (MoE) of Japan developed the quantitative estimation of the virtual water import to Japan and revealed that the total volume was approximately 80 billion m3/yr in 2005.
